White Frame Schools
Around 1905, two-three white frame schools were being built. There would have been 2 or more teachers per school and 2-3 grade levels together. Children still walked to school. The school year lasted 4-5 months so children could work on the family farm. By 1907, there were 190 high schools in North Carolina and one-room schools were closed and consolidated into larger schools.
